It’s that time of year again. We will be holding our annual election at next months meeting, November 15th, 2024.
Running the club is hard work, especially with all the challenges we’ve had to deal with over the past many months. Our board members all work together to manage our normal day-to-day and month-to-month operations, as well as unexpected problems like we experienced with the move from our main repeater facility at the Vic Trace reservoir (TCF) site. Things are moving along well, but there is still work to do.
Every year we elect our officers and directors for the coming calendar year. Our current board has agreed to run again this election so the new ballot looks a lot like last years. This will be immensely helpful as the current board has been involved with the repeater site move from the beginning. For the upcoming year, the return of the current board is more important than it has been in previous years as the current board members have the knowledge and experience with our ongoing issues that will ensure that we keep moving in a positive direction. We are fortunate that our board members are willing to give us another year of their valuable time.
In addition to the election of officers and directors, we have some other important organizational changes we are proposing. Because these are Bylaw changes, and because we value your input, we are presenting three proposals your your approval. Briefly, these are:
- Dues increase from $35 to $40. We all know how inflation has affected us, and this will help us keep up.
- Changing the legal corporate name from Santa Barbara Amateur Radio Club to Santa Barbara Wireless Foundation. The words “amateur” and “club” in our name has always kept us from being taken seriously, and this change has been discussed many times. SBARC will still be SBARC. That won’t change, but we’ll be able to represent ourselves more professionally which will hopefully open more doors for us.
- We are also proposing a change to our Mission Statement to better reflect our role in the community. It was last updated in 1998, so it is due.
These items are all explained in the documents below, and they will also be explained and discussed at the October 18, 2024 meeting.
